Steve Monaghan is general partner at FinMirai, an investment and digital strategy firm, and is based in Tokyo, Japan. Steve founded the Innovation Groups at DBS Bank and AIA Company Limited and has created new products, businesses, and companies across the technology and financial services industries. In banking, he developed a consumer finance division for OCBC and led the retail bank turnaround of Shinsei Bank in Japan growing revenues by USD500 million, deposits by 25% and improving net income by USD100 million during a nine month transformation. As the chief innovation officer for DBS Bank, Steve drove the innovation agenda and focused on intelligence, big data and social, culminating in an investment of over USD220 million by DBS in IBM Watson, DBS A*Star R&D Lab and Digital Banking. He also developed and filed 6 patents, including DBS’s first patent and Citibank’s first mobile payments patent. He is a private investor in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, life sciences, healthtech, and fintech. Steve has served on the advisory boards of HK Agency Science and Technology Research Institute, Intel, Veritas Genetics, and as an investment committee member of True Global Ventures.
