As a child, he always spent all his vacations with a great-uncle in Port Navalo. He took him to the sea aboard his Poker, a small family cruiser from the 70s. The destinations were not very far then: Houat, Hoedic, Belle Ile-en-Mer, the Gulf of Morbihan. After completing his first round-the-world trip during the Vendée Globe 2016-17 in 110 days, Romain decided to repeat the experience four years later in the old IMOCA of Fabrice Amedeo (Gitana80 designed for Loick Peyron). He then finished his solo round-the-world race in 14th place in 90 days. For the 2024 Vendée Globe, Romain acquired an IMOCA with foils for the first time, allowing him to enter a whole new dimension.
