Workshop: Fortinet Secure Networking LAN Edge: Switching and Wi-Fi with FortiGate

This hands-on workshop gives attendees a practical look at how Fortinet approaches security from the firewall all the way to the access layer. Using physical gear in a hands-on lab, attendees will work through real configuration and design workflows focused on FortiLink, switching, and wireless. The emphasis is on outcomes that matter to public sector IT teams: improving visibility, simplifying operations, strengthening segmentation, and getting more value across the wired and wireless edge.

This workshop is valuable for current Fortinet customers, partners, and those new to Fortinet who want to better secure and manage the wired and wireless edge while gaining a clearer understanding of the Fortinet Security Fabric. Attendees will experience how Fortinet views switches and access points as extensions of the firewall, with FortiSwitch and FortiAP management built into the FortiGate as native functionality without requiring additional licensing. They will also see how that approach helps maximize the value of existing environments and how the same design principles can guide broader planning and future refreshes.

Attend this workshop and you will learn how to:

• Configure FortiLink and understand how FortiGate manages the LAN Edge
• Bring FortiSwitch and FortiAP under FortiGate management
• Understand how Fortinet extends firewall visibility and enforcement to the access layer
• Create segmented wired and wireless networks using VLANs, SSIDs, and firewall policies
• Validate the deployment and see how these pieces fit into a practical secure LAN Edge design
• Explore deeper switching concepts such as microsegmentation, inter-VLAN inspection, dynamic port policies, and FortiLink NAC
• Explore deeper wireless concepts such as FortiAP profiles, SSIDs, captive portal use cases, and foundational wireless design and management

Event Format

The event includes an introduction and lunch, followed by approximately two hours of guided hands-on lab time using physical gear. All attendees will follow the same core wired and wireless workshop structure, covering foundational FortiSwitch and FortiAP design, setup, and management through the FortiGate.

From there, attendees can choose to focus more deeply on:

• Switching concepts, with added emphasis on microsegmentation, dynamic port policies, and FortiLink NAC capabilities available natively through the FortiGate
• Wireless concepts, with added emphasis on FortiAP configuration, SSIDs, captive portal use cases, and foundational wireless design and management concepts

After the lab, attendees can stay for open technical Q&A and design discussion with Fortinet engineers.
