Roger Cressey is the Managing Partner at Mountain Wave Ventures, LLC. At Mountain Wave, Roger provides strategic counsel to clients on federal cybersecurity policy and cyber risk management. Previously, he served as partner with Liberty Group Ventures, a cyber risk and crisis management firm that worked with the federal government, global corporations, and technology leaders on cyber risk management challenges for senior executives. While at LGV, he was a member of the team that supported the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in development of the 2014 Voluntary Cybersecurity Framework as well as supporting President Obama’s Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity in 2016.

From 2010-2013, he served as a Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton, supporting the firm’s cyber security practice in the Middle East and with U.S. commercial clients. From 2002 – 2010, he was President and Founder of Good Harbor Consulting LLC, where he provided consulting services to Fortune 1000 companies, venture capital firms and overseas clients in cyber security policy, risk and vulnerability assessment and crisis management.

Mr. Cressey’s government service includes senior cybersecurity and counterterrorism positions in the Clinton and Bush Administrations. At the White House, he served as Chief of Staff of the President’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board from November 2001 – September 2002. He also served as Deputy for Counterterrorism on the National Security Council staff from November 1999 to November 2001. He was responsible for the coordination and implementation of US counterterrorism policy and managed the US Government response to multiple terrorism incidents, including the Millennium terror alert, the USS COLE attack, and the September 11th attacks.

Prior to his White House service, Mr. Cressey served in the Department of Defense where he worked on US defense strategy and the review of Pentagon war plans. He began his federal government service at the Department of State and served overseas with the U.S. Embassy in Israel and with UN peacekeeping operations in Somalia and the former Yugoslavia. While in the former Yugoslavia, Mr. Cressey was part of a United Nations team that planned the successful capture of the first individual indicted for war crimes in Croatia.

From 2004 - 2013, he served as an on-air counterterrorism analyst with NBC News, appearing regularly on NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, MSNBC, and CNBC. His national security commentary has appeared in numerous domestic and international radio and print outlets.

From 2001 - 2006, he taught a graduate course on U.S. counterterrorism policy at Georgetown University. He received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and an M.A. in Security Policy Studies from The George Washington University.
